Documents for writing a Review discussion

Learning Goal: I’m working on a psychology writing question and need support to help me learn.

Assignment Directions

A. Answer the following questions:

1. Read “Writing a Review”.

2. Read this review: Review of Squid Game October 2021 Rolling Stone Magazine

3. Take the relevant Characteristics of a Successful Review (from “Writing a Review”) and apply them to the review from #2 above, much like you did in an earlier assignment when you applied the parts of the rhetorical situation to analyze a reading.

  • Label each characteristic clearly.

This part of your assignment should be 1+ page double-spaced in length (not in an essay format: you can be informal and use bullet points).

Example:

Criteria for Evaluation: In “Daytripperis a Great Read,” JaNae Doe, the reviewer, gives mostly clear criteria to explain why she thinks this book is worth our time to read. She writes in her second paragraph that the book is very well-illustrated, and that the subject matter of the book is interesting to people of most ages over the age of 18. She gives three examples in the second page of her review of some of the best illustrations in her opinion. She also explains why she thinks that adults would enjoy “a mere comic book” in her third paragraph. She talks about how the twist in the storyline (the main character “dies” at the end of each chapter) means that a certain expertise in reading is necessary to understand what is a nonlinear story line. She never explains why readers under 18 will not like this book, and she does not explain why the story line needs a reader who is skilled at reading.

B. Post your work from part A, above, to the discussion assignment board, linked below.

CAfter you post your work, in order to receive full credit, respond to two other people’s posts. The grading policy for discussions and the grading rubric categories for discussions explains what these peer responses should contain and how long they should be
