Outline and PowerPoint

Learning Goal: I’m working on a writing presentation and need a sample draft to help me learn.

You will need to do research on the person in order to gain more information to include in your outline for the assignment. You may end up choosing a person that you know something about, but you will most likely learn additional information about the artist through research. You must use AT LEAST THREE sources of information to enhance your own knowledge. This includes websites, articles, books, interviews, and DVD’s.

Audience Analysis: Once you choose a person, think about how much the audience
probably knows as well. Is this a well-known person? Are they more obscure? Thinking
about how much the audience knows BEFORE you research, write, and present the
speech will help you determine what information you may or may not want to include.
Organization and Written Work: You MUST use an outline for this presentation. If
you do not have one you cannot present the assignment. The outline will conform to the
format discussed in class. It will include an introduction, a body (with three main points),
and a conclusion. A works cited section for the research you have used in your speech
will also be included.
The three main points, which make up the body of the speech, are as follows:
1. The life and biography of the person.
2. Examples of the work this person created.
3. The impact the artist and their work has had on others.

The outline must be typed, double-spaced, and include a Works Cited Page.

Visual Aid: Visual aids enhance any speech. You are required to do a PowerPoint to aid
your speech. This should include pictures of your person, and other pictures and visuals
you think would be interesting and informative to the audience.
How many slides should you have? Only as many as required to visually support what
you’re saying orally. That doesn’t mean putting words on a screen, which creates a
conflict for your audience (should I read or should I listen?). It means using limited text
with simple visuals and graphics.
I attach the example outline and power point presentation.
