Discussion: Existential Philosophy

Learning Goal: I’m working on a humanities discussion question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.

While difficult to encapsulate, Existentialism suggests that there are no external forces/creators to whom one might appeal to for direction in regard to right and wrong (Ethics), or what is Good of Evil (Morals). We create purpose, meaning, morals, ethics. These then can be negated by our freedom to choose, to go beyond these man-made concepts, and we must take full responsibility for all of our actions, not as directed by an authority, or judged by “others.”

DISCUSSION PROMPT:

What aspects of Existential Philosophy do you incorporate in your daily life and which aspects do you reject? Explain your reasoning and give specific scenarios/situations, or examples to support your views.

Pose at least One question to your peers that may be confusing you, or to which you would like a more comprehensive answer AND respond to the question posed by your classmates in your responses.

POSTING DIRECTIONS:

You must post your Discussion entry BEFORE you can reply to at least two (2) of your classmates. If you are the first or second to post, you must return to the assignment in order to respond to your peers as they begin to submit their entries. The idea of the Discussion responses and entries is to keep the discussion going by introducing new views or insights, sharing similar or different reactions to your peers, posing questions about particular views or ideas expressed, or responses to classmates might address questions posed in the initial post, share different views, add to those views posted by citing other example, ideas, views, etc.

Approx. 500 words Responses at least 150 words each.
