High Quality Connections
You may have heard of organizational development, this assignment is based on a subset of that field – positive organizational scholarship. We will explore High Quality Connections; the signature features of HQC are: vitality and energy for both parties, positive regard, and joint participation and responsiveness. There are 4 pathways to HQC – respectful engagement, task enabling, trusting, and playing. This week we will focus on respectful engagement, engaging other people in a way that sends a message of value and worth.
This week you will conduct a HQC mini-experiment. It might be helpful to think about with whom you consistently have HQC and identify the patterns and takeaways. Then think about a particular goal or area of your life that could benefit from more HQC; design a mini experiment (one interaction) where you utilize the respectful engagement pathway.
You will create a Screencast-O-Matic (Links to an external site.) video submission detailing your use of an HQC technique and the experiment you designed. This video will be added to the PERMA portfolio and can be shared with potential employers to market your leadership skills. You have a professional audience and so you should dress, film, and communicate accordingly. Screencast-o-matic allows for multimedia integration, so make your video visually compelling as well with images or diagrams. After creating your video, please upload it to a hosting site such as Google Drive, YouTube (use the unlisted setting to keep your video private but viewable by your instructor), OneDrive, or Dropbox. In the textbox submission for this assignment, please submit a link to your video.
Similar to your other experiment this week, your video (3-5 minutes) should focus on the following three stages to prepare, gather data, and report back, and these should be represented in your video with visuals and/or slides.
Planning – What is the outcome you are trying to achieve? Provide some background information on the context. With whom did you work, and why? What action steps did you plan to take to conduct your experiment? What are your measures of success.
Execution – How did you approach the scenario? What happened according to each measure of success? What specific behaviors did you observe? Were there any surprises or insights?
Reflection – How were you thinking/feeling during the interaction? What 1-2 insights did you learn about HQC? What 1-2 ideas do you have to implement HQC in the future? How can you apply it when you’re on the receiving end? Compare this approach with your previous experiment using Appreciative Inquiry and the feedback you have received
